1st week
hope everyone is getting on well. had a great first week, working mostly with patients with cancer and stroke and a variety of other conditions as it is general medical. being on a 2 to 1 model is great as it offers lots of support and myself and yvonne are learning lots from each other. during the week we have been involved in chart reviews which we found to be quite challenging due to the abbreviations the doctors and other team members use (not to mention bad writing). we also carried out MMSE on an individual who has a history of alcohol abuse. we also carried out an ADL assessement with an individual to determine her suitability to return home. we have observed rivermead behavioural memory test, MEAMS and functional assesssments, wheelchair assessments and hopefully we will get the opportunity to carry these during the placement

Hi Emma. I'm envious of yourself and Yvonne having each other for support -- must be nice! Your placement sounds quite a lot like my PE1. I spent a lot of time doing MMSEs too and got to do quite a few washing and dressing assessments in the stroke unit. Are you working with people with dementia too 'cause I found the PAL quite good re demtia. I found the book OT for Physical Dysfunction useful too. Good luck with week two!
